c t r a l r t 0 s h 1 a bstract he fracture of endodontic instruments is a procedural roblem creating a major obstacle to normally routine herapy. With the advent of rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) nstruments this issue seems to have assumed such rominence as to be a considerable hindrance to the doption of this major technical advancement. Considrable research has been undertaken to understand the echanisms of failure of NiTi alloy to minimize its ccurrence. This has led to changes in instrument deign, instrumentation protocols, and manufacturing ethods. In addition, factors related to clinician expeience, technique, and competence have been shown to e influential. From an assessment of the literature resented, we derive clinical recommendations conerning prevention and management of this omplication. (J Endod 2006;32:1031–1043)
